Thousands of Messages Urge Obama to Free Imprisoned Cuban Five

Washington, Sep 5  – Thousands of messages will arrive today at the White House, urging the release of three Cubans who remained imprisoned in the United States, with September 12 marking 16 years of their imprisonment.

The objective of the call to the White House is to communicate with President Barack Obama by mail, email, phone or fax, the widespread support for the cause of the Cuban Five, as Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez and Rene Gonzalez are universally known.

Promoted by the International Committee fighting for the release of those men, the worldwide demand to end the injustice by returning Hernandez, Labañino and Guerrero to Cuba will be reiterated to the U.S. president. As a total, their sentences add up to two life terms plus 66 years.

The call is made to the executive mansion on the fifth day of every month, as part of a constant and increasing solidarity with those Cubans, activists say.

This time, the campaign “Five Days for the Cuban Five” is also part of the general context of a concentrated event behind held to condemn terrorism and support the imprisoned men who truly fought against it: Gerardo, Ramon and Antonio.

This international campaign against terrorism and for the release of Gerardo, Ramon and Antonio will run until October 6, with actions scheduled in more than 40 countries.
