Havana, July 3, – Cuban President,Raul Castro Ruz, has left the Cuban capital, Havana on Sunday, to pay an official visit to the People’s Republic of China and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, an official communiqué said Sunday.
The Communist Party’s Granma newspaper said Sunday that Raul had departed from Havana’s José Martí International Airport on Sunday, and flew to the People’s Republic of China, to pay an official visit to the Asian country. It also said he would then visit neighboring Vietnam, without giving any other details.
His accompanying delegation is comprised of top government officials, including Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz, vice president of the Council of Ministers, and Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, Minister of Foreign Affairs.
A Chinese Foreign Ministry statement on Sunday said the Cuban President will meet President Hu Jintao during his four-day trip to Beijing starting on Wednesday.
“Cuba is a major country in Latin America. It is also the first Latin American country to establish diplomatic ties with new China. China pays great attention to his state visit to China,” ministry spokesman Liu Weimin said at a press conference.
Liu also said the two sides would sign cooperation documents.
