Cuba Brings 80 Titles to Bogota Book Fair

Bogota, Apr 25  –  The book “Guerrillero del tiempo” (Timeless Guerrilla), with numerous passages by the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, and volumes of poetry by Nicolas Guillen and Jose Lezama Lima are among the Cuban titles most requested at the Bogotá book fair (Filbo 2013).Cuba is participating at the 26th edition of the fair with 80 different works, backed up with 800 copies as well as an extensive collection of CDs and DVDs, which have been warmly received by Colombians visiting the exhibit.

Four publishers from the island are represented at Filbo 2013, along with around 420 exhibitors from a dozen countries.

Cuba’s offerings include novels by Alejo Carpentier, the poetry of Carilda Labra 0liver and children’s books, including the Blue Coachman, by Dora Alonso, and The Golden Age by José Martí.

Music has a special place at this edition of the fair, said Olivera. Of the more than 1,500 copies of the 150 different titles brought to the fair, those of Ernesto Lecuona, the Trio Matamoros and Benny Moré have been most well received.

One of the biggest surprises in this event has been the interest of Colombians in Afro-Cuban religion, one of the most sought after topics among those who visit the exhibit daily.
