Cuba, June,11 – Fans of country music, poetry, arts, habits and culture in general will be delighted at the Cucalambeana Festival, scheduled for the eastern city of Las Tunas as of June 27th.Arts delegations from a dozen countries have already confirmed their attendance to the gathering, which are participating with a sample of their country cultures. Researchers and traditional groups and bands from Argentina, Spain, Costa Rica, Colombia, Venezuela, Mexico, the United States, Panama, the Dominican Republic, Germany and others will be on hand.
The festival is named after Juan Cristóbal Nápoles Fajardo, known as El Cucalambé, a 19th century country poet who lived in El Cornito Farm in Las Tunas. On June 30th and July 1st, coinciding with the 184th anniversary of El Cucalambé’s birth, the festival will hold the 18th Iberian American Colloquium on “Décima and Improvised Verse”, dedicated to country literature and poetry.
Outstanding Cuban fine artists are set to exhibit their works linked to the countryside and a special audiovisual program on traditional Latin American cultural figures will also be included on the event’s agenda.
El Cornito, the farm where El Cucalambé wrote most of his work, will be the gathering’s main venue, which will also be extended to other communities and cultural institutions in Las Tunas.
