Havana, Jun 22 – Prestigious international ballet companies will honor the Cuban prima ballerina assoluta Alicia Alonso in galas to be held in South Africa from June 28 to 30.According to local sources, the event will take place at the Teatro at Montecasino in Johannesburg and will be dedicated to the 70 anniversary of the debut of Alicia in the role of Giselle and the 65 of the National Ballet of Cuba (BNC), company founded and directed by her.
Director of South African Mzansi Ballet, Dirk Badenhorst is in charge of the gala, which includes the leading dancers and prima ballerinas from the BNC Anette Delgado, Viengsay Valdes, Sadaise Arencibia, Dani Hernandez, Jose Losada and Arian Molina.
Other dancers will be representatives from the English National Ballet, Dutch National Ballet, Dresden Ballet, Hungarian National Ballet, Columbia Classical Ballet, The Washington Ballet, Art of Motion, South Korea Ballet, Mariinsky Ballet and South African Mzansi Ballet. The program includes showpieces from Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty, The Nutcracker, Giselle, Don Quixote, among others, as well as conferences and master classes with the presence of specialists from Cuban and other nationalities.
In the Ballet World, Alicia Alonso is one of the most relevant figures and the major representative of the Ibero-American classic ballet.
