London, Aug 2 – U.S. scientists developed a child’s energy balance method to detect the development of obesity at an early age, the British journal The Lancet published.
According to the article, the technique also predicts future operations in patients with such conditions and accurately simulates the changes in body composition and energy expenditure during child´s growth.
This quantifies the energy excess and calculate the magnitude of future operations.
This quantitative method is an effective tool to control the disease and facilitates medical treatment and prevention of obesity.
There are 42 million obese children worldwide, of which about 35 million live in developed countries, according to estimates from the World Health Organization.
Moreover, each year at least 2.6 million adults die as a consequence of obesity or overweight.
