Cuba, Agu 10 – The historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, will be honored with a concert by the Mariana de Gonitch Song Academy on Monday on the occasion of his 87th birthday.
Revolution Square’s José Martí Memorial will host the concert titled Fidelísimo concierto, which will be conducted by the group’s director, maestro Hugo Osle.
Outstanding Cuban soprano, María Eugenia Barrios, who will be the gala’s special guest, is scheduled to sing excerpts of the Cuban “zarzuela” (operetta) Cecilia Valdes and also excerpts of the opera Travia. Maestro Hugo Osle will also reappear on stage after having retired as a tenor for almost eight years.
A version of the almost 100-year-old Venezuelan song Alma LLanera will be premiered by the ensemble for the occasion.
