Havana, Aug 29 – The celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the capital baseball team, the Industriales, top winner of titles in Cuba after 1959, will involve an extensive program of activities.
Among the activities stands a game between Cuba great baseball figures, reported today Rene Bocourt, spokesperson for the Sports Office in Havana.
According to Bocourt, the game should be held on September 29 at the Latin American Stadium, home of the Industriales.
It is also planned an event to demand the release of the Cuban five Gerardo Hernandez, Fernando Gonzalez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero and René González, who are imprisoned in the United States, which will be held on September 12 at Havana Anti-imperialist Square.
Also, there will be a concert by Cuban musician X Alfonso, scheduled for Saturday on the steps of the University of Havana, which will mark the end of the summer and will honor the “Lions”, as Industriales players are known.
The celebrations will last for the rest of 2013 and until February next year, Bocourt said.
The Industriales, top winner of titles in Cuban Baseball Championship (12), was created in 1962 and debuted in the national competition on February 10, 1963.
