HAVANA, Sep 27 – The 8th Congress of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution, the largest Cuban grassroots organization, opened its 8th Congress today with the aim of making changes to its working agenda and structure, according to National Coordinator Carlos Rafael Miranda.
Readjustments in the leadership at all levels plus changes to the focus on different relevant tasks will be at the center of discussions by delegates participating at the Congress, which is running till September 28 at Havana’s Conventions Palace.
A major issue is the need to have young leaders in the organization at all levels, according to the CDR leader, who also announced other activities during the event, including a solidarity action with the Cuban anti-terrorist fighters held in US prisons since 1998.
Also on the agenda is a meeting of the Continental Front of Community Organizatins, which gathers social groups from Latin American and Caribbean nations.
On the eve of September 28, which marks the foundation of the CDRs, all Cubans will gather in neighbor meetings to celebrate the anniversary. The activity is held annually throughout the island, as neighbors look at the work done and the upcoming tasks.
