Cuban Musicians Nominated for Latin Grammy

Havana, Sep 27  –  Pianist Chucho Valdes, singer Miriam Ramos, the Santiaguero Septet and the Ignacio Piñeiro National Septet are the musicians and groups representing Cuba at the competition for the 14th Annual Latin Grammy Awards.

According to sources from the Cuban Music Institute, Valdés and his group Afro-Cuban Messenger have been nominated in the category of Best Latin Jazz Album with their album Border-Free.

Meanwhile, La Canción by Ramos, Vamos pa la Fiesta by the Santiaguero Septet and La Habana Tiene su Son by the Ignacio Piñeiro National Septet have all been nominated in the category of Best Tropical Traditional Album.

The Latin Recording Academy also recognized a work from Leo Brower´s opus, included in the Beatlerianas album by The Havana String Quartet, produced under a foreign label.

The Academy will also grant a Special Prize to Juan Formell, founder of the orchestra Van Van, one of the most popular dance music orchestras in Cuba.

The awards ceremony for the 14th Annual Latin Grammy Awards will be held November 21 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, USA.
