Havana, October 8 – Experts at the United Nations are forecasting a massive vote against the United States when the resolution on the U.S. blockade of Cuba is presented at the UN General Assembly later this month.
Deputy Foreign Minister Abelardo Moreno told a press conference in Havana that in previous years, the UN has almost unanimously given its support to Cuba when the criminal U.S. blockade has come up for discussion and vote at the United Nations General Assembly.
The minister added that in face of the massive rejection of that blockade year after year at UN, the Government of the United States will sooner or later have to accept world condemnation of that criminal policy.
Moreno recalled that at the General Assembly Session of this year, no less than 47 foreign dignitaries that condemned the blockade in their speeches.
The Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister was presenting Cuba’s stand against the U.S. blockade at a ceremony held in one of the medical institutions most affected: the pediatric CardioCenter of Havana.
This institution, attending children with cardiac malfunctions, is an institution whose work has been gravely disrupted by the lack of access to US produced medical supplies and equipment.
Cuba’s new allegation against the blockade will be presented at the plenary session of this year’s General Assembly on October 29th next, the Cuban official said.
Minister Moreno recalled that in less than five years, the US Government has fined at least 30 US and foreign institutions more than two billion 446 million dollars for doing business with Cuba and other nations which it does not like. This criminal economic war is in contradiction with the UN Charter and offends the dignity and feelings of billions of people around the world. Since it was imposed, the US Economic blockade against Cuba has caused this the Cuban public damages estimated at more than one trillion dollars.
