Los Angeles, Oct 21 – Canadian filmmaker James Cameron will turn Avatar, one of his highest and most awarded movies, into a franchise with three new releases, local media reported.
The sequel’s shooting will start by mid 2014, and the three pictures will be filmed simultaneously as a single production, said Australian Sam Worthington, who plays the leading role.
The script, developed by American screenwriters Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, Shane Salerno and Josh Friedman is not finished yet.
Cameron and Lightstorm Entertainment Company will produce the films, while Joe Letteri and his team at WETA Digital (Star Wars, X-Men and The Lord of the Rings) will be in charge of the special effects.
The release of the first sequel will be in 2016, with the second to follow in 2017, and the third a year later.
