San Juan, Oct 24  –  Cuban feature film Melaza will compete in the San Juan International Film Festival, that oponed with Argentinian-Puerto Rican film “Hugo, Paco, Luis y tres chicas de rosa”.

Melaza, by filmmaker Carlos Lechuga, comes with the precedent of having won the prize to the best Latin American film in the recent Malaga Film Festival, apart from other regional awards.

The story of a town built surrounding a sugar factory that closed, affecting a community and in particular, the young couple of Aldo and Monica, becomes a photo of the daily life to survive and love.

Another pearl of this festival, commemorating its first quarter of a century, will be the screening of “Pelo Malo”, Venezuelan film which won the Concha de Oro in last San Sebastian Festival in Spain.

The movie “Heli” will also be shown after Mexican filmmaker Amat Escalante won the Golden Palm to the best director in the past Cannes Festival.

At the same time mega-production “Toussaint Louverture”, starred by Jimmy Jean-Louis under the direction of French Philippe Nang, will be another main course dish in this film contest.
