Havana, Dec,5th – Despite a world seasoned by anti-tobacco laws and the global economic crisis, Cuban cigars again lit up their crown in 2013 and made an impact in the marketing of gourmet smokes.
According to analysts, the main causes for the prevalence in smokers preference lies in the supreme quality of habanos, considered the best Premium cigars in the planet and, thus, the most demanded.
Their place in the commercial top list is supported by economists who extol the climate condition, soils and production experience, besides an efficient promotion that
reaches its top notch at the Habano Festival held each year in Havana.
The two most significant cigar-related venues in the world are one in the city of Las Vegas, the United States and that which takes place in the Cuban capital.
The first one has the disadvantage of not showing Cuban cigars due to the economic and commercial restrictions imposed by Washington on Havana since the 60s of last century.
However, the Cuban event (held on February each year) is a venue that grows each year with over 1500 persons of some 70 nations, besides other meetings of importance like that which takes place in November organized by the Partagas brand of habanos.
Habanos international marketing grew by two percent during the first half of this year, said Marketing Vicepresident of Habanos Corporation S.A., Jorge Luis Fernandez Maique.
The executive added that regarding sales of Cuban Premium, hand-rolled cigars, increased by three percent.
Fernandez Maique said sales also grew in traditional markets as is the case of Switzerland, France, Germany and the United Kingdom with a drop in Spain.
He highlighted there is a mounting tendency in Asia, Russia with significant increases as well as the Middle East.
Portugal and Greece registered a drop in sales.
Habanos Vicepresident said despite the strict anti-tobacco laws, sales in Europe will hopefully end 2013 with an increase.
Number one brand in sales is the Series D No.4 of Partagas, informed Fernandez Maique, whose corporation sells habanos in over 150 countries, except for the United States, due to the known commercial barriers.
Corporacion Habanos has 80 percent of the global market of Premium cigars, and distributes 27 brands in the five continents, especially Cohiba, Montecristo, Romeo and Juliet, Partagas, Hoyo de Monterrey, H. Upmann and Punch.
This year is significant for the presence of new products of very high quality which made an impact in several markets, always to satisfy a segment of very expert and demanding smokers.
