Santiago de Chile, Jan 10 – Chile’s Election Review Board today officially proclaimed Michelle Bachelet as the country’s elected president, after her victory in the presidential elections last December 15th.
Bachelet obtained 3,470,379 votes in the second voting round, as reported at an official ceremony held in this capital, by the institution in charge of reviewing the ballots.
At the end of the ceremony, the elected president said this was a special day and thanked Chileans for their support at the polls.
She announced that she is working on the formation of the new government so that on July 11th “we can start working with the necessary strength, dynamism and energy to carry out the changes to which we have committed.”
Congressional leaders and representatives from different political parties also attended the ceremony.
