Camagüey Commemorates 90th Anniversary of First Radio Broadcasting

Camaguey. Jan, 10 – A large variety of activities has been scheduled to celebrate the 90th anniversary on January 16th of the first radio broadcasting in Camagüey province. Scientific events, conferences, awarding ceremonies, a workshop with the participation of radio professionals from the first seven villages founded in Cuba along with meetings with the listeners has been included on the agenda.

The province will also be celebrating the anniversaries of the Nino Moncada Dramatic Group –Radio Cadena Agramonte- as well as  Radio Camagüey (Feb.), Radio Guáimaro (March), Radio Nuevitas (Aug.) and Radio Florida (Nov.).

The celebration of the 90th anniversary also includes improvement of the material conditions of the radio system premises. In this respect, Radio Cadena Agramonte is renovating its electrical and plumbing systems.

Alice Sosa Velázquez – provincial director of the radio system in Camagüey- said that the introduction of radio took place in this city when many major cities of Latin America still didn’t have such invention. So, it demands a lot of creativeness and commitment from radio staffers.

On January 16, 1924, the first radio signal came into being thanks to 7A7 transmitter and it opened the door of radio broadcasting in Camagüey province where there are a total of 10 stations.
