Havana, Jan 16 – Cuba filed more than 200 athletes qualified for the XXII Central American and Caribbean Games in Mexico-2014, issued here today the newspaper Granma. Cuban delegation increased its number after confirming the presence of 28 volleyball players in the modalities room and beach for regional lid to organize the Mexican city of Veracruz from 14 to 30 November.
For regional competitive event Cuba has secured in cycling 22 contestants, handball (28), shooting (20), fencing (12), soccer (12), gymnastics (12) vessel (9), weight (8) and skating (6), rhythmic gymnastics (1) triathlon (2), pentathlon (2), water polo (26), synchronized swimming (10), archery (6) and softball (17).
Cuba did not participate in the previous version held in the Puerto Rican city of Mayaguez for lack of security there for its delegation.
In the twentieth edition held in Cartagena, Colombia, the Cuban delegation commanded the standings with 138 gold medals, 86 silver and 61 bronze for a total of 285 medals, ahead of Mexico (107-82-86-275 ), Colombia (72-70-77-219 ) and Venezuela (49-90-124-263).
