Cuban Child Wins Bronze Medal in Swimming Competition

Santo Domingo, Mar 22  –  The Cuban child Abel Bandrich received on Saturday the bronze medal he had won last weekend at the 4th Circuit in Open Waters, held in the Dominican beach of Boca Chica.

The competition brought together a record of 250 swimmers in several categories under 18 years of age, who competed in the 1,000, 3,000 and 5,000 meters.

Bandrich, the son of a couple of diplomats, won the bronze medal in the 1,000-meter contest for children under 10 years of age, and exelled his previous performance when he finished in the fift place.

“As before, in my debut, this was a very competitive event, and I’m happy with the achievement after so much training,” he told Prensa Latina.

He said that he swims at first with some trepidation because it sees the finish line too far, but stroke after stroke he feels that everything is well and success is possible.

Abelito, as he is fondly called by his friends and family, started swimming systematically in 2012. He also competes in short distances in the butterfly style, basically.
