Villahermosa, Mexico, Mar 22  –  The 19th National Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba opens on Saturday in this capital of the southern state of Tabasco with the participation of about 500 delegates.

During the event, to be run until Sunday, March 23, participants will establish and strengthen the activities supporting Cuba this year.

The slogan of the meeting is “History unites us, present support us. Future is ours.”

One of the main issues will be the continuity of the struggle for the release of the three Cuban antiterrorist fighters, Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino and Antonio Guerrero, who have been unjustly held in U.S. prisons for more than 15 years.

They, along with Rene Gonzalez and Fernando Gonzalez, who returned to their homeland after completing their prison sentences, were arrested while monitoring activities by Miami-based terrorist groups against Cuba.

Another main issue will be the activities against the blockade the United States has imposed on Cuba, which is firmly condemned by the world’s public opinion.

They will also coordinate efforts to publicize the achievements of the Cuban Revolution and the greatest contributions that in a gesture of solidarity, the island-nation has given to other peoples worldwide.

According to the meeting’s agenda, participants will also support the Bolivarian government of Venezuela and its president, Nicolas Maduro.

A Cuban delegation, made up of Ambassador Dagoberto Rodriguez and Aleida Guevara, daughter of the revolutionary icon Ernesto (Che) Guevara, among others, will also attend the event.

Lectues about Cuba’s current situation will be given to enrich the content of the meeting, as part of the program.

The book “Memorias del Dueño del Yate Granma” (Memoirs of the Granma Yacht’s Owner), by Antonio del Conde (El Cuate), will be launched tomorrow. The book recalls the expedition from Mexico to Cuba led in 1956 by Fidel Castro and his compatriots to reignite the revolutionary struggle against the Fulgencio Batista dictatorship.
