March, 5 – The Five Cuban antiterrorists arrested in the U.S. in 1998 were the winners of the Annual Human Rights Prize of Global Exchange, in the category of Prize Selected by People, as announced on Friday in the United States.In early March, the International Committee for the Freedom of The Five nominated these Cuban antiterrorism fighters for the 12th Annual Human Rights Prize of Global Exchange, in that category. Many other human rights fighters were also nominated along with The Five.
The campaign began slowly but it gradually grew as the news spread. Through the repeated use of social networks, votes for The Five continued to increase and the campaign acquired a life of its own. This is the result of the active support of the movement in solidarity with these five Cubans in all parts of the world.
