Havana, May 13 – Cuban third baseman Yulieski Gourriel on Monday became a new player of the Yokohama DeNA BayStars team of the Japanese Professional League. I am going to assume an experience that I wanted to live, said the Cuban player in statements published on the official website of the Cuban Baseball Federation.
A member of the Cuban teams that competed in all three editions of the World Classic, Yulieski added that he will join the world’s second major baseball league, which is “demanding, where you have to play well to shine”.
Yokohama Head of Operations Shun Kakazu pointed out that Yulieski will certainly play as a second baseman, although he might also be used as a third baseman, his natural position, according to the team’s needs.
We have been following him for a long time, in the World Classics and more recently in March here. In addition to being a tactful and strong batter, he is a fast runner. He perfectly adjusts to the team’s requirements, said the Japanese executive.
