Havana, May 22 – Cuba’s National Ballet (BNC) will dedicate its next performance of The Swan Lake to the Latin American News Agency Prensa Latina, celebrating its 55th anniversary, the company announced. This gala is scheduled for June 20.
The BN, run by Prima Ballerina Assoluta Alicia Alonso, will open at the National Theatre a new season of The Swan Lake, considered by many to be one of the greatest classical ballets of all times.
The Swan Lake is a ballet composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and tells the story of Odette, a princess turned into a swan by an evil sorcerer’s curse.
Although it is presented in many different versions, most ballet companies base their stagings both choreographically and musically on the 1895 revival of Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov.
In the second half of the twentieth century, Alicia Alonso built her own version with a higher technical demand, in correspondence with the virtuosity that she liked and was able to exhibit.
Prensa Latina was founded in Havana on June 16, 1959, and has 31 bureaus abroad, and provides TV, radio, photography and editorial services.
