Cuba, may 24 – The award “50 years producing for the people” was given on Thursday to Commander in Chief Fidel Castro for his dedication and efforts to boost poultry activity in Cuba.
This special acknowledgement was handed over by Emiliano Diaz, director of the National Poultry Complex (CAN) to Agriculture Minister Gustavo Rodriguez, during the ceremony to mark the 50th anniversary of the founding of the CAN.
During the meeting, Rodriguez spoke about the challenges and plans of this sector, to get to 2020 with a production close to the one achieved in 1991, when a production record of 2,717. 1 million eggs was set.
He pointed out that there are plans to improve the existing works and infrastructures, modernize technologies and begin studies to increase the production of chicken meat, among others.
Before the triumph of the Revolution, poultry activity was incipient in Cuba, so a large amount of birds were imported from the United States.
CAN was created on May 22, 1964. Over the last five decades, organizational capacities to develop egg production on scientific bases by way of programs to control diseases, food, genetics and technologies to locate birds in farms, implemented by professionals in this sector, have been created.
