Cuba and Mexico Sign New Cooperation Agreement

Cuba, may 26 – Cuba and Mexico set today the basis for strengthening their economic relations through the signing of a new cooperation agreement and opening, in this city, of a commercial office of the Aztec nation.

The signing between ProMéxico and the Cuban Centre for Promoting Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment took place at Miramar Trade Center, where the Mexican commercial office will be.

These actions confirm the government’s willingness to relaunch bilateral ties, voiced by the presidents of Mexico and Cuba, Enrique Peña Nieto and Raul Castro Ruz, respectively, during the meeting held last January in Havana.

Francisco Gonzalez, ProMéxico CEO, in presence of Rodrigo Malmierca, Cuban Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, said this event will serve as a bridge to boost trade in strategic sectors.

Gonzalez told the press that this is the time to foster relations due to business opportunities offered by the new Foreign Investment Law (118) and in particular the Mariel Special Development Zone.

He noted his interest in having a strong presence in this area with major investments in sectors such as energy, tourism and agro-food and metalworking industries.

The ProMéxico CEO heads an extensive Mexican delegation visiting Cuba, comprising 60 businessmen and eight government officials who will participate in business roundtables, exchange seminars with their Cuban counterparts and tours to places of economic interest.
