Paris, Mar 30 – The exhibition Ofrendas (Tributes), by artist Silvia Rodriguez Rivero, was opened today at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris as part of the events of the Cuban Week,” taking place in this country.
More than 30 paintings and wood works are on exhibit. The music of renowned Cuban composer Jose Maria Vitier, partner in life of Rodriguez Rivero for more than four decades, will also have a special presence.
According to her statements, ‘our work has always been closely linked, Jose Maria composes and I paint at his side. Music has helped me to get my works out, and he says that my paintings have encouraged composition work.’ The younger generations of this prolific family in art and music will also be represented with paintings by their son, Jose Adrian Vitier, and a digital animation produced by their grandson.
The exhibit will include the precursor generation, great Cuban intellectuals, Cintio Vitier and Fina Garcia Marruz, who contributed a poem by the writer entitled ‘Solo el amor’ (Only Love), musicalized by Jose Maria Vitier.
Those verses were translated into French and were sung by soprano Barbara Llanes.
The ‘Cuban Week’ is celebrated these days in France with several events destined to present the cultural wealth of the Caribbean nation, as well as strengthening ties between both countries.(Prensa Latina)
