Camagüey Increases Medical Investigations

Camagüey,  Jun 1st – A dozen of researchs projects outstand in the agenda of the Center for Immunology and Biological Products at the Carlos Juan Finlay Medical Sciences University in this Cuban city, located at the central eastern part of the island.
With the intention to strengthen the Cuban public health system, despite difficulties with the equipments, this department works with software and implements biotechnology for methods and diagnoses for malignant diseases.

Elizabeth Nicolau, director of the Center, told Prensa Latina that among the studies, there is one about the diagnosis of Helicobacter Pylori in the Stomach, which can go up to gastric cancer.

‘This opportune diagnosis allows the immediate treatment to resist the bacterium and eradicate it in the patients, although many prove to be asymptomatic, at that time it becomes complex to detect it; nevertheless, the success is clear in the hospitals of all the provinces’, Dr. Nicolau ensured.

The investigator expressed that the country does not commercialize the Diagnosis of Helicobacter Pylori, shown already by foreign companies, yet, the studies in this aspect have allowed the medical personnel to join criteria on this bacterium that 50 percent of the world population has, and suffers from.

The Unit for Development and Investigation in Camaguey is also focused in plans to standardize the vaccines against alergy and reach uniformity and quality.

The Center for Immunology and Biological Products in the Carlos J. Finlay Medical Sciences University also collaborates with institutions in the provinces of Ciego de Avila and Las Tunas for new research projects.(Prensa Latina)
