Raúl sends message of condolences following floods in Vietnam

Cuba, Nov 3rd – Vietnamese press reported this November 2, that President Raúl Castro had sent a letter of condolences to the people and government of Vietnam following recent floods in the north of the country.

“On behalf of the Cuban Communist Party, government and people I extend to you our deepest sympathies for the human and material losses caused by floods and landslides, following heavy rains in various provinces in the northern region of the country,” read the letter.

The document was sent to Secretary General of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Nguyen Phu Trong; President Tran Dai Quang; and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, in which the Cuban President requested that his condolences be passed on to those affected and the families of the victims.

The floods, the worst the Vietnam has seen in recent years, left 75 dead and 35 disappeared in the country’s mountainous northern region.

Both located within the subtropical ridge, Cuba and Vietnam are often affected by hurricanes, an experience which contributes to the strengthening the long-standing ties of friendship between the two nations.

As such, Vietnamese officials sent messages of support and solidarity to Cuba following the destruction caused the island by Hurricane Irma, which left 10 dead and caused severe economic damage. (PL)
