President of Vietnam dies

Cuba, Sep 22 – Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang died at the age of 61 at this Friday, September 21, 10:05 (local time) in the Central Military Hospital of the capital of Hanoi, having battled a serious illness, according to official sources.

The sudden death of Tran Dai Quang is a painful loss to the Cuban people and government, given the great friendship and ties of cooperation that exist between the two nations.

As reported by Prensa Latina, as soon as the president’s death was announced, the Ambassador of Cuba to Vietnam, Lianys Torres, expressed the island’s sincere condolences.

“President Tran Dai Quang was a great friend of Cuba, a strong promoter of the historic bonds of brotherhood between our countries,” the diplomat stated.

“A few days ago, despite being seriously ill, Quang was kind enough to receive our First Vice President, Salvador Valdés, to whom he expressed the Vietnamese sentiments of infinite friendship toward Cuba and its Revolution,” the Ambassador added.

On that occasion, Tran Dai Quang reiterated how proud and honored he felt to be, in November 2016, the last foreign dignitary to have been received by Fidel Castro (shortly before the death of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution).
