Florida, Jan. 16.- The collective of the Territorial Station for Sugar Cane Research (ETICA), based in the municipality of Florida, commemorated this January 15 the Day of Cuban Science, in a day dedicated to the evaluation of the results of its studies and the recognition of its most outstanding academics and workers in 2020.
During the past year the scientists of the entity managed to keep the progress of five research projects with developments at the territorial level in the use of physiological indicators for a more accurate selection of the variety of plant to reproduce, according to the interests and needs of the producers .
In this sense, the investigative work of the Doctor in Agricultural Sciences Joaquín Montalván stands out during the stage, who won one of the CITMA 2020 Awards for technological innovation due to the results in his study Methodological procedure for the evaluation of Brown Rust, a disease that affects to grasses.
Despite the limitations imposed by Covid-19, scientists from the Florida Sugarcane Territorial Research Station, together with agricultural support workers, managed to maintain experiments on biological planting material and what allowed to continue the progress of its research projects of great utility in the constant search for methods and techniques to obtain varieties of juicier and more resistant to the climate, which contributes to the economy of the municipality and the country.
