Washington, May 31.- The main coordinator of the Puentes de Amor solidarity project, Carlos Lazo, called for another global caravan against the economic blockade imposed on Cuba by the United States for six decades on June 20.
In a message through his Twitter account, the Cuban-American activist pointed out that that day will take place just three days before the vote in the UN General Assembly of the draft resolution of the Caribbean island in rejection of these unilateral sanctions. In his video on Twitter, sent after completing the caravan that took place in more than 70 cities around the world, Lazo thanked the people in solidarity from Africa, Asia, Europe, Australia, America and other regions who participated in this solidarity action against the siege unilateral US, whose main weight falls on Cuban families.
“Even in Miami, Florida, hundreds of our brothers participated with us to demonstrate the rejection of the blockade imposed by Washington on our country,” said Lazo, coordinator of Puentes de Amor, whose main objective is to fight against such punitive measures.
The Bridges of Love in this just cause will overcome the ideological and other differences that we have, and we will demonstrate this once again on June 20, when we repeat this global solidarity action, he emphasized.
As part of this global demonstration, hundreds of Cuban-Americans living in Miami, Florida, demanded this Sunday that President Joe Biden “lift the sanctions and fulfill his electoral promises,” Lazo reported this Sunday at noon in a communication via Facebook.
All of us who are gathered here vote for you, in the hope that this unilateral siege will be lifted, which affects the people of Cuba above all, added the activist.
During said intervention live through Facebook, Lazo urged his compatriots to move forward “because we were never cowards, and that the Virgin of Charity of Copper, Patroness of Cuba, cover us with her mantle.”
Cuba will bring the resolution it presents each year to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) next month to call for the end of the blockade, which had to be postponed in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The voice of Cuba and the world against the blockade will rise again on June 23 at #AGNU. If in more than six decades this cruel policy has caused deficiencies in the Cuban family, in the last year, in the midst of the pandemic, it has tried to almost suffocate us, ”Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel wrote recently on Twitter.
Since November 24, 1992, the UNGA has spoken out every year against the blockade, which is reflected in an almost unanimous vote in favor of the elimination of such hostile policy.
In the most recent debate of a motion in the UN against this unilateral siege in November 2019, Cuba obtained the support of 187 of the 192 member countries.
