A counter-revolutionary brigade, armed, trained and transported by the U.S., arrived in the Zapata Swamp, southern part of Matanzas, Cuba, on the morning of April 17, 1961. Entire village mobilized the army and the militia, they led by Fidel, immediately counterattacked. In 60 hours of hard fighting mercenaries were defeated, who surrendered at Bay of Pigs on the evening of April 19.
