Florida, June 26 – Adolescent pregnancy continues to be a serious health problem in the municipality of Florida, due to the growing number of girls and young women under 19 years of age who become mothers at this early age.
According to data from Cuba’s Demographic Yearbook, at the end of 2022, Florida was among the territories in Camagüey and the country with the highest incidence of this phenomenon, with hundreds of pregnant women and teenage births that exceeded the provincial and national average.
The experts of the Maternal and Child Care Program (PAMI) maintain here the systematic call to work together in the sexual and reproductive education of the new generations; a task that demands a close link and positive collaboration between the different institutions, including families and schools, together with community actors and leaders and the Public Health System.
Among the causes and conditions that cause adolescent pregnancy are the early onset of unprotected sexual relations, parental irresponsibility, lack of preparation for motherhood, in addition to the deficient treatment of the subject in parental communication and in educational programs.
