Cuban FM Calls to Defend Latin American Peoples’ Sovereignty

Havana, May 23 –  Cuba’s Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodriguez, expressed today in a message on Twitter that the proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a zone of peace should guide the defense of sovereignty.

The proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a zone of peace, its platform for defending the principles of international law and sovereign equality, its resolute pronouncement against war and violence and in favour of peace, should be useful for us for the defence of our common sovereignty,’ he wrote in his Twitter account @BrunoRguezP.

On Tuesday, the Political Council of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-People’s Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP) met in Havana, where the regional bloc reasserted its support for the Bolivarian Revolution in Venezuela and its constitutional president, Nicolás Maduro.

The meeting explored new opportunities for integration and ratified the commitment to unity, cooperation and solidarity among the member nations in the current situation.

The Council is made up of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of each member country, and its objective is to advise the Presidential Council of this integrationist platform on strategic issues and to present it with proposals on international political issues.

Bolivia, Cuba, Dominica, Grenada, Nicaragua, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname and Venezuela are the members of ALBA-TCP.

This integrationist group defends the proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a zone of peace adopted at the presidential summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States in January 2014, in Havana.(Prensa Latina)
