Caracas, June 6 – The extraordinary prize of the Simon Bolivar National Award of Journalism 2013 was given today for unanimous voting to late Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez.Just three months after his demise, journalist Lil Rodriguez -a member of the jury announced the decision to recognize Chavez post mortem for the boos he gave to the country´s public and popular media during his term.
According to Rodriguez, Chavez gave back the word and prominence to the Venezuelan people, made his the cause of the oppressed around the world and was “an undefeated fighter” against media deception and manipulation.
Rodriguez said that Venezuela had never had better communicators than Bolivar and Chavez, even though they were not professional journalists.
She said the Chavez family will be given the award on June 27 at a ceremony in Miraflores Palace, in Caracas.
The jury of the Simon Bolivar National Journalism Award 2013 also assessed 79 pieces of work and recognized journalists from different media organizations.
